Florida State University’s Sustainable Campus (SC) is a program that encourages community involvement and sustainable living through education and hands-on events. Each of its 13 affiliate programs are run by undergraduate students who learn to lead groups of volunteers, plan events, and teach others about environmental issues. Not only are these programs educational and fun, they also impact students’ lives by building lasting relationships and developing eco-conscious habits.
As their graphic designer, I worked as one third of the Sustainable Campus Communications Team (SComms, as we like to call it) to create marketing campaigns, design impactful graphics, and follow up on the results of those campaigns.
Ours was the first year that SC had its own communications team, and it brought us measurable results! Through focus groups, data collection, and social media interaction, we found that more students were becoming involved with SC than ever before.
During our focus groups we asked students what most appealed to them when deciding to attend our events. Their answer? 1) Free food 2) Our colorful, eye-catching posters!
